There are places that exist not just on a map but in the stories we tell and the memories we hold close. They become woven into the fabric of our lives, shaping who we are and grounding us in a sense of belonging. For me and my family, that place is Chelan, Washington. From the earliest days of my childhood, summers were synonymous with Lake Chelan. My family has been coming here for three generations—a tradition started long before I was born. My grandfather used to tell me stories of teaching my mom how to waterski, back when Native Americans still rode horseback on the Wapato Reservation. Those stories became the backdrop of my own summers spent by the water, where the scent of pine mingled with sunscreen, and laughter seemed to echo endlessly across the lake.
A Place of Tradition and New Beginnings
My dad’s family has always camped at Don Morse City Park, their RVs and tents a familiar sight under the summer sun. My grandparent’s lakeside condo at Wapato Point became a second home, the scene of countless family reunions, barbecues, and late-night stories playing board games and watching movies. Friends and friends of friends joined in, making Chelan more than just a destination—it became a living scrapbook of cherished moments. And then, life came full circle. At 29 years old, I joined with a few partners to purchase a home in the heart of downtown Chelan. It felt like more than just buying property; it was about preserving a generational legacy and creating a space for new memories—both for my family and for others looking to discover the magic of this place.
